Thinking about food additives
must first explain that melamine is not a food additive, nor is it a legal food additive. The addition of melamine in milk powder is purely to deceive people and money, it has nothing to do with food additives.
Food additives are part of the food processing industry. A world without food additives is also inconvenient if not unimaginable. For the concept and history of food additives, please refer to China Economic Weekly''s interview with Wang Zhutian, deputy director of the Nutrition and Food Safety Institute of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Here we mainly discuss attitude issues (provided that the food additives are qualified and legally used).
Food additives are a bit like cars. Early development and increase greatly facilitated people’s travel and life, which is undoubtedly a good thing. However, with the increasing number of private cars, problems such as tight roads, traffic congestion, rising oil prices, and air pollution have emerged, and they have become more and more serious, especially in some cities. The problem is more prominent, so people start to complain about too many cars. , Some people suggested restricting the car license, road .... However, in view of the current domestic situation (the same is true of other countries), it is not possible to restrict the production or use of automobiles because that is a step backwards. At present, the more realistic attitude can only be to develop public transportation, environmentally friendly cars, small-displacement cars, and advocate less driving (no car days). Like automobiles, there will be more and more food additives, and it will also bring many problems, such as health hazards, sub-optimal use, super-standard use, disorderly development, etc., but it is unrealistic to artificially restrict their development and use As for the ban on food additives, there is no rational vent. For food additives, what are the beneficial and more realistic practices?
1. The state has established strict food additive approval procedures and management standards for limited use, which is also the majority of countries including China Measures being taken. (This is like manufacturing a car that requires strict management of vehicle conditions, fuel, exhaust, etc.)
2. Advocating natural food additives to replace some (unreplaceable) artificial additives. Of course, this often leads to increased costs. (This is like advocating environmentally friendly vehicles. It is not realistic to replace all ordinary vehicles with environmentally friendly vehicles, but it is worth the effort.)
3. Consumers should increase their health awareness and purchase fresh, simple processed, Foods with fewer additives, stay away from foods with many additives. Taking noodle products as an example, it is recommended to choose more simple processed foods such as buns, bread, and hand-rolled noodles, and choose less processed foods such as egg yolk pie, crispy biscuits, and instant noodles. (This is like buying a small-displacement car for environmental protection and not buying a large-displacement, luxury car blindly).
4. Don’t just want the convenience brought by food additives, regardless of food safety and health. For example, if possible, try to cook your own food instead of buying processed food all day; try to go to the market every day to buy fresh food instead of buying a bunch of them and buying them for half a month. (This is like advocating less driving and walking or biking. With a private car, don’t drive every day, every time, don’t go in one step)
In short, we can’t totally deny the auto industry or restrict cars Industrial development, but we consumers can choose not to buy cars, buy small-displacement, environmentally friendly cars, and drive less cars... The same is true for food additives. It is wrong to completely deny it, and it is not realistic to reject it completely, but Our consumers can make their own choices, buy less foods with more additives, are willing to sacrifice some convenience for health (cooking their own food), and are willing to refuse some delicious temptations for health and safety (do not buy garbage that is particularly delicious but contains a lot of additives) Food) etc. I think these practices are more meaningful than complaining, anger and curse.
