Can smoking reduce the effect of insulin?

Female  32 years old 2018-07-02
I used to only know that eating and drinking can cause diabetes. In the past few days, I heard that smoking is also possible. Can smoking reduce the effect of insulin?

Nicotine in tobacco can cause sympathetic nervous system excitement, leading to increased release of catecholamines and other glycemic hormones. Catecholamine is a powerful antagonist of insulin action. It can reduce the synthesis of glucose transporter protein by damaging the signaling pathway and intrinsic activity of insulin, thus weakening the action of insulin, which leads to diabetes.
