Babies are most likely to be deficient in vitamin D. This is because daily foods do not contain much vitamin D (no more than 100 units a day), which is far from the recommended amount. There is not much chance for babies to be exposed to sunlight, and they cannot synthesize enough vitamin D. Therefore, they are very susceptible to lack, even if breastfeeding, they will be lacking in the body. After lack of vitamin D, calcium is poorly absorbed, and bone development is also affected. Symptoms of rickets such as irritability, night terrors, sweating, occipital alopecia, bone deformity, and slow development of movement can occur. Adults show rickets. Therefore, babies should be supplemented with vitamin D from 2 weeks after birth.
