Why can't green tomatoes be eaten?

Male  22 years old 2018-06-26
When picking tomatoes, I accidentally picked blue tomatoes and wanted to use them for cooking. My mother wasn't allowed to say that you can't eat them. Why can't you eat green tomatoes?

Green tomatoes contain alkaloid glycosides (solanine). Their shape is needle-shaped crystals, which are very stable to alkali, but can be hydrolyzed by acid. Therefore, unripe green tomatoes often feel uncomfortable when eaten, but the mouth feels bitter, and in severe cases, poisoning may occur. Especially when the green tomatoes begin to rot, their solanine will be destroyed. After the green tomatoes turn red, they do not contain solanine.
