The dishes my wife has made these days are too salty. Today, my throat is uncomfortable and I still have a cough. Did I eat too much salt and caught a cold?

Too much table salt has a high chance of catching a cold. A high concentration of sodium salt has a strong osmotic effect, which can affect the disease resistance of human cells. Excessive salt can reduce saliva secretion, so that the lysozyme in the oral cavity is reduced accordingly, so that the virus has the opportunity to implant in the oral cavity. Second, due to the penetration of sodium salts, the defense function of epithelial cells is inhibited, and the disease resistance is largely lost. Cold viruses can easily invade the body through cells that have lost their barrier function, so people are prone to catch a cold, and upper respiratory tract inflammations such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis also often occur.
