What are the benefits of supplementing zinc during pregnancy?

Male  25 years old 2018-06-12
I haven't been able to eat food since I was pregnant. I'm afraid that my child will be deficient in zinc. I heard that pregnant women can prevent zinc deficiency by supplementing zinc. Is this true?

Eating nutritious food during pregnancy is beneficial to the fetus. Zinc is involved in fetal growth and development, immune function and nervous system development. Women's demand for zinc in pregnancy increased by 40% compared to non-pregnancy. Zinc deficiency is often accompanied by protein/energy malnutrition and is also seen in people with poor diet quality. Women in pregnancy should regularly consume foods rich in zinc or fortified zinc to meet the demand for zinc.
