Eating whole grains often can protect your eyes. According to a study by Tufts University in the United States, refined carbohydrates can increase the chance of macular degeneration of the retina by 49%. When the sugar intake exceeds the cell's metabolic capacity, the protein in the eyes will be damaged. However, replacing some refined carbohydrates with whole grain foods (such as white bread) can greatly reduce the risk of eye diseases.
