Oral contraceptives can prevent some cancers. Conventional short-acting oral contraceptives can provide additional protection for women. The most unexpected effect is to prevent ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer, while also inhibiting the invasion of colorectal cancer and other cancers. An observational study of 744,000 people who used or currently used oral contraceptives and 339,000 people who did not use oral contraceptives showed that users of oral contraceptives had a significant 12% decrease in the overall incidence of cancer compared with non-users.
