Syphilis is caused by bacterial infections, which can invade the heart, eyes, brain, bones and nervous system. Can invade the skin, mucous membranes and other tissues and organs. Early syphilis manifests as painless ulcers in the genitals, usually starting 10 days to 3 months after infection.
