  Cervical erosion cannot be understood literally because it is not true erosion. After female sexual maturity, under the action of estrogen, the columnar epithelium in the cervical canal grows outwards, replacing the part covered by the original squamous epithelium. Because the columnar epithelium is thin, the capillaries are rich, the color is red, and the cervical erosion is named. There is now a consensus in the medical community that cervical erosion should be called cervical column epithelial cell migration, or cervical erosion-like changes. This is usually a physiological manifestation, not necessarily a disease.
