Microcirculation refers to the blood circulation between arterioles and venules. "Arterioles" and "venules" are relative to larger arteries and veins. Different organs and tissues have different local microcirculation structures (vessel composition). The simplest is the microcirculation of the wrinkled skin of a human fingernail. The arterioles and venules are only connected by loop-shaped capillaries. The microcirculation morphology of skeletal muscle and mesentery is very complicated.
