Potentially dangerous fluids should be avoided in children with diarrhea. Of particular note, some sugary drinks can cause osmotic diarrhea and hypernatremia. For example, commercially available carbon dioxide-containing beverages, commercially available fruit juices, and sweet tea should also avoid some irritating, diuretic, or laxative liquids, such as coffee, certain herbal teas, or granules.
