I heard that if the body lacks selenium, the probability of developing cancer will be very high. Is this true?

It is not that lack of selenium will definitely cause cancer, but selenium is indeed very important for human body to fight cancer. Metabolites of selenium, especially methylated selenides, can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Selenium can protect the sulfhydryl groups in the body and antagonize the toxicity of heavy metals.
