Megaloblastic anemia, also known as trophic macrocellular anemia, is caused by a deficiency of folic acid or vitamin B12. This anemia is common in infants and young children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. Anemia caused by folic acid deficiency mainly exists in children and adolescents during growth and development, hyperthyroidism, hemodialysis, and people who take certain drugs for a long time. Vitamin B12 deficiency is common in the elderly, patients with partial gastrectomy, and vegetarians. Folic acid is widely found in animal foods, and soybean fermented foods contain a certain amount of vitamin B12.
